Abstract

Introduction: this essay critically examines the replacement of the term “worker” with “collaborator” in contemporary labor relations. The lexical change does not merely represent a semantic update or humanization; it functions as an ideological device aligned with the neoliberal logic of flexibility, individualization, and subjective control. By replacing historically loaded terms, managerial discourse obscures asymmetries in employment relations, weakens collective identity, and dilutes the legal foundations of labor protection.

Objective: the essay aims to demonstrate how the euphemism “collaborator” creates a symbolic environment of false partnership, masking control and subordination. It also seeks to explore the political, legal, and psychological implications of this discourse in contemporary work experiences.

Methodology: the study draws on critical sociology, labor law, and organizational studies. It analyzes the genealogy of the term “collaborator” within flexible management models and platform capitalism. The method combines critical literature review and discourse analysis of managerial language practices.

Results: the research shows that the term “collaborator” promotes internalization of coercion, work intensification, and erosion of class consciousness. It demonstrates that discourse emphasizing engagement, entrepreneurship, and shared responsibility creates a false sense of partnership. The study also reveals how linguistic structures contribute to labor precarization and obscure historically established labor rights.

Conclusion: the essay concludes that it is necessary to repoliticize labor language and reaffirm “worker” as a marker of historical struggle and legal protection. It proposes concrete strategies of resistance, such as strategic litigation, digital unionism, and cooperative platforms, capable of confronting the dominant logic of labor precarization in the digital era.
