Statement on the use of Generative AI in Scientific Writing
The following guidelines apply solely to the writing process and not to the use of AI tools for analyzing and drawing conclusions from data as part of the research process.
When authors use generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, these technologies should only be used to enhance readability and language.
The application of such technology must be performed with human oversight and control, and authors must carefully review and edit the output, since AI can produce results that sound authoritative but may be incorrect, incomplete, or biased.
AI and AI-assisted technologies must not be listed as authors or co-authors, nor cited as authors. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and executed by human beings.
Thus, authors must disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by adding, at the end of their submitted manuscript and before the references list, a statement under a new section titled “Statement on Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process,” with the following wording:
"Statement: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE OF USE]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication."
This statement does not apply to the use of basic grammar, spelling, or reference-checking tools. If there is nothing to disclose, no statement needs to be included.
